Show off your LEGO building skills!

Enter your original LEGO creations in the KPL LEGO Building Contest. Open to all by age bracket: 0-5 years, 6-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15-18, 19+. Entries accepted Friday & Saturday, August 8-9 during open hours at any location.

LEGO creations will be displayed in the library, August 11-15. Judges will include library staff and community leaders.


Winners will be announced on the KPL website and the library’s Facebook page on Monday, August 18. Good luck!

The LEGO Building Contest is co-sponsored by the Friends of Kalamazoo Public Library.


Contest Guidelines

  • Submissions Accepted: August 8-9 during open hours at all KPL locations
  • Public Viewing and Voting: August 11-15 at all locations
  • Winners will be announced at on Monday, August 18

Age brackets:

  • 0-5 years
  • 6-8 years
  • 9-11 years
  • 12-14 years
  • 15-18 years
  • 19+


  • 1st Place: $20 gift certificate for Target and choice of donated, vintage Lego kits
  • 2nd Place: $15 gift certificate for Target
  • 3rd Place: $10 gift certificate for Target 
  • People’s Choice from each location: LEGO building book

Official Rules:

  1. All creations must use your own LEGO, DUPLO or MEGABLOCKS bricks.
  2. No other materials (glue, paper, etc.) are permitted in the creation of your entry. 
  3. Entries must fit within a 12 x 12 x 12 inch space.
  4. If your creation has multiple pieces, you must provide cardboard or other solid surface to display your creation on. 
  5. All entries must be completely original creations. No designs from LEGO, websites, books, etc. will be accepted.
  6. Team entries are permitted. Teams entries will be judged in the category of the oldest participant.
  7. Completed projects must be delivered to a library location during open hours on August 8-9, 2014.
  8. An entry form must be submitted with each original LEGO creation. Forms may be obtained when you drop off your creation at the library.
  9. Public viewing and judging will be conducted at the library location where you entered your creation, August 11-15, 2014.
  10. Winners will be announced via KPL’s website on Monday, August 18.
  11. Lego creations MUST be picked up Monday, August 18, during open hours. 

Please note: Every effort will be made to return all bricks to their original owner. Projects will be on public display at the library for one week.
