Michigan Asylum for the Insane
Siggins Album, ca. 1899 - 1909
The following photographs of the staff and grounds of the Michigan Asylum for the Insane are from an
album compiled by Elsie Culp Siggins. She and her husband Clyde B.
Siggins were employed there, first as attendants and later as supervisors, from
about 1899 to about 1909. It is likely that Clyde took at least some of
these images. See the portrait of them with their camera on page
66. Many were taken at Brook Farm and the Asylum Lake Colony, where the
Sigginses worked for a time. Where they exist, captions have been added by the
library staff and were not present in the original album.
