Job Title: Library Aide 1

Responsibilities

Library Aide 1 work is routine and repetitive work which requires accuracy and speed, but is of limited complexity. The work follows well established procedures. Detailed instructions are given when the aide is newly hired and as part of any new assignment. Work assignments are usually closely supervised.

Examples of work are shelving materials/reading shelves; inspecting materials; minor mending and photocopying.

Qualifications

Qualifications include the ability to alphabetize, follow instructions, learn and work quickly and maintain a high degree of accuracy. Excellent work habits are required.

Job Title: Library Aide 2

Responsibilities

Library Aide 2 work is more responsible and complex than that assigned to the Library Aide 1. Although there are well established procedures, independent judgment and initiative is often needed to apply the procedures to a specific situation. Tasks are varied and require on-the-job training with considerable overview until the responsibilities are mastered. Work often involves patron interactions and sometimes involves using equipment such as computers, reader-printers and microfilm readers.

Examples of work are assisting patrons at the circulation and audio visual desks; monitoring the Local History Room; attending the equipment area, including showing patrons the proper use of the equipment; entering information into the local history database; performing clerical tasks, discharging materials; including keyboarding and filing; and operating the library switchboard.

Qualifications

Qualifications include the ability to alphabetize, follow instructions, work quickly and accurately, keyboard, operate or learn to operate equipment to be utilized as part of the work assignment, and work well with a diverse population. Excellent work habits are required.
