Art Gallery
The Barnabee Art Gallery was established in the 1984 by Walden Baskerville,
a Kalamazoo sculptor and psychologist, as a way to highlight the artistic
talents of Kalamazoo school children and local artists. Today that tradition
continues with several exhibits each year featuring the work of local artists
of all ages.

Larry Laurin

Larry Laurin was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan. After
graduating from Kalamazoo Central H.S., he settled in Portage,
where he raised a family of five – 3 daughters and 2 sons.
During these years he was active in men’s softball and men’s ice
hockey in the Kalamazoo area. Larry has always had an eye to see
things in a very creative way – and was even kicked out of his
9th grade art class because the cows he was asked to draw looked
“too abstract” for the teacher’s taste. Just recently, his
passion for “scribbling”, as he calls it, has resurfaced.
Encouraged by his daughter, Ann-Marie, he now finds it very
relaxing. His mechanical knowledge and uninhibited sense of
color and imagination are some of the inspirations that fuel his
art – nearly 500 drawings to date! A talented musician, Larry
also enjoys playing guitar and writing music, riding his
motorcycle, and a lot of fishing. For additional information
about Larry’s Scribbles, please contact Ann-Marie Henegar at
roundabouts@sbcglobal.net. A father-daughter venture,
Larry’s colorful art has also been fashioned into fun abstract
art pins available soon at
www.createaroundabout.com. Larry’s Scribbles were recently
on display at the Portage City Hall, Oggi’s the Gift Shoppe
(December 2007 Kalamazoo Art Hop), and at Willis & Willis (March
2008 Kalamazoo Art Hop). Future showings include the Barnabee
Gallery in Kalamazoo during the months of April & May, 2008, and
the Portage District Library during the months of October,
November & December, 2008. |
